Pilates for Imbalances with Jay Grimes PREVIEW
http://www.pilatesology.com In this session, Jay addresses the issue of how to deal with imbalances such as scoliosis or a body that is stronger on one side versus the other. Having been trained to teach firsthand by Joe Pilates, Jay begins by making the point that Joe's real genius was that he built balance into each exercise, and if a teacher simply makes sure a body is working evenly, most imbalances will fix themselves without any special tricks. To illustrate this in action, Jay takes his student Sandy through a standard Reformer session that reveals his method for evaluating his client's needs (in this case, Sandy's scoliosis); bringing awareness to those needs; assisting and correcting with hands on help; and finally deciding where what he sees on the Reformer should take the rest of the session. Jay further addresses Sandy's imbalances with standard Pilates repertoire on the Wunda Chair; utilizes a Magic Circle on the Cadillac; and finishes the session on the Guillotine. Through simple exercises done correctly, Jay is able to bring Sandy's awareness to how one side of her body is stronger than the other and to balance them out. Filmed at Vintage Pilates, West Los Angeles, CA.
Pilates Toe Corrector with Kathi Ross Nash PREVIEW
http://www.pilatesology.com Fix Your Feet, Tighten Your Seat! You might not realize it but the toes are connected to the hips, glutes and core. If you have trouble with your feet or toes, you need to strengthen them through functional movement that connects them to the rest of the body. Using the Toe Corrector, Kathi will bust your bottom, building strength that radiates all the way down through your feet. This is the magic of Pilates—by creating a strong center, we support the limbs. For this class, you'll need a Toe Corrector (buy one here: Gratz Pilates), a towel, 5 marbles of any size, and a pencil. Filmed at American Body Tech, Kathryn Ross-Nash's Allendale, NJ studio. The Original Rowing Series PREVIEW
http://www.pilatesology.com Having learned to teach in the Pilates' Studio for Body Contrology as Joe called it, Jay Grimes knows what the Rowing series on the Reformer should look like. As Clara Pilates said, you want to "squeeze the juice out of it," but what Jay sees demonstrated by many of those new to the work is, well..., no juice at all. To help shed some light on what's missing, Jay takes his student Ken through the series offering his techniques for getting more out of it. Jay then demonstrates how Mr. Pilates taught him to break the exercises down for a beginner. For those who are more delicate due to injury or weakness, Jay also shows how to teach these exercises on the Baby Arm Chair because it is more supportive, uses lighter springs and allows for better access for the Instructor. This is an absolutely invaluable class for anyone looking to improve their teaching or technique in the Rowing Series. Filmed at Vintage Pilates, West Los Angeles, CA.

Many people believe the apparatus needs to be adjusted for different bodies and would be tempted to put a person of Brett's height on a longer Reformer or work in 2nd gear. Get the Most out of Your Man PREVIEW
http://www.pilatesology.com Kathi and her 3 victims, um students, demonstrate in this Pilates Mat how to give a strong man a workout that will make him understand what traditional, old-fashioned Pilates can do. The vigorous hands-on help here are precisely the 'pushes' shown in archival footage of Joe Pilates that Kathi has learned from her own teachers and should never be undertaken without a complete knowledge of how these pushes feel on one's own body. Kathi's point is that men who are used to working hard will be ready to refine the details of an exercise after they have experienced it in a broader sense. The end of the session includes a brief introduction to each of her students and their own experience of how the workout feels. Outtake alert! A big thank you to Pilates Challenge on NYC's Upper East Side where this class was filmed. Visit Kathryn Ross Nash at her website, American Body Tech.

Pilatesology The Red Thread ™ by Kathi Ross Nash - PREVIEW
http://www.pilatesology.com Discover how the exercises in your own workout tie together through Kathi's brilliant parallels. You'll find that Pilates is more than just a list of exercises, it's a recipe to change bodies. Kathi developed The Red Thread as a way to explain the method of Pilates to instructors and also to give students a way to learn. It's a theory: a thread of thought or connection that runs through every exercise in the work; red to represent blood and circulation. Kathi demonstrates how the matwork is the heart and soul of Pilates—the ultimate goal. The apparatus are tools to get you to that goal and this workshop will help you design a recipe for the body in front of you.

The Pilates Toe Tensometer with Lori Coleman Brown
http://www.pilatesology.com Having healthy feet is often taken for granted until something begins to go awry. In this session, Lori brilliantly explains how a simple tool used a few minutes a week can quickly reverse what might otherwise seem an unstoppable process. When they first met, Lori's client Diane had toes that were beginning to curl under and showed the early signs of becoming Hammertoe. Using the Pilates Toe Tensometer (also known as the Toe Corrector), Lori here shows how to work the Transverse arch (the ball of the foot) in order to bring strength combined with flexibility back to the fine muscles of the feet. Diane always begins her lessons with this specific, yet brief work to help open and connect her feet and she immediately notices the changes. As her feet have become stronger and more flexible, they have also begun to relax and she notices that they don't cramp in exercises that used to create terrible spasms. In other exercises, Diane now notices that she has a feeling of more reach through her legs and newfound strength. So can you! Filmed at Atlas Pilates, Lower Queen Anne neighborhood in Seattle WA.
