This talk was given at a local TEDx event, produced independently of the TED Conferences. Physical Fitness does not have to be complicated. There are psychological aspects to staying motivated for fitness and then a few rules to adopt for success. The speaker presents his ideas on motivation, measuring your fitness level, and exercises to become fit. Ogie Shaw is a native of Raleigh, NC. He is a veteran of the US Army and served in Vietnam. Afterwards, he graduated from UNC at Chapel Hill earning degrees in both Speech and Physical Education, later earning certification as a Health Promotion Director from the Cooper Institute® in Dallas, Texas. He served with the Portland Police Bureau and later joined a national network of medical and fitness leaders dedicated to teaching the health benefits of daily exercise. He has been an author, counselor, seminary graduate and pastor to Portland-area retirement homes. He has trained the Portland Trailblazers and Seattle Seahawks, and he has been asked to write a book on his work providing fitness training for paraplegics. Ogie has had a passion for fitness, health, business, and music all of his life. His career goal is to establish a model for a fitness lifestyle for Americans that is sufficient to impact physical and mental health. He has given over 5000 speeches on fitness motivation. We know a Pilates workout gets the core activated and even though this the focus is a leg workout for this Pilates Mat Class, we will still get a good core workout. Why? Because we need a strong core to support the rest of our body (ideally anyways). This an effective Pilates leg workout with no equipment. In this 20 minute Pilates class we are going to work on getting stronger, quads, hamstrings, glutes, adductors(inner thighs) and abductors(outer thighs) for a well rounded leg workout. Pilates Tip: Some of these exercise I would consider advanced level Pilates exercises for a variety of reasons. If you can’t or shouldn't do an exercise feel free to opt out, but keep moving and do a Pilates exercise of your choice. This is about your best Pilates leg workout! One aspect that I like about a slower full length Pilates class is you can ensure you are strengthening and stretching your body. A slow flow Pilates class can also have a more calming effect on the mind and you really get to work on the mind body connection, so you are aware of each movement, making the Pilates exercises more effective. This Intermediate level Pilates practice is a full 45 minute workout for a practitioner with a some experience and knowledge of the Pilates method and principles. If you are new to Pilates, use this Classic Pilates Mat Class as a demo of how you may move some day. This is a workout that Mr. Pilates created and I follow his exercise sequence as outlined in his book Return to Life. (I will leave a link below for his book.) A classic Pilates mat class is one that I turn to when I want a short Pilates workout and just want to move from one exercise to another. The traditional Pilates mat class has a range of exercise levels from beginner Pilates exercises to advanced Pilates exercises. Incorporating a classic Pilates mat class into your workout routine really works to balance the body, center the mind and uplift the spirit. Another great benefit of a classic Pilates mat class is that it is a Pilates workout with no equipment so you can do this Pilates class almost anywhere. Please note, that this in my personal workout and I really wanted to show you how I move with Pilates for a personal Pilates workout. (One of the ways, there are so many!)
