This is a simply fabulous video! The style of French women is unsurpassed and women all over the world can absolutely learn how to dress well from our sisters who exude magnificence!

Great advice on shopping for clothes that can last at least 10 years. I find myself buying cheap seasonal clothes all the time as if there are disposable.

I am Slovak and tbh same! Good taste is universal. <3 But it is true it took me few years to get it right. ... Also, you are lovely, your content is great. ^_^
Rachel Olsen (26 days ago)
This was so helpful! Does anyone have suggestions for affordable, durable brands? I feel like everything is made so cheaply these days.
KindredKristina (29 days ago)
Justine! Love this 💞 Please, please, please 🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼 do an extension of this video with the Kibby body types and French chic with examples! Specifically Romantic body type.

What a lovely young lady ! Since civility seems to be a thing of the past, I would nominate Mlle Leconte to create a series on manners too. To dress and present oneself in an appropriate and thoughtful way -- like it matters because it does (!)-- goes hand in hand with well-mannered and civil behavior in all places and at all times, for all situations. These life skills are without borders, and Mlle Leconte is wonderful. With impeccable American English. Bravo.

I’ve got most of these except not a fan of turtlenecks. I have a soft cashmere jumper though, it’s just a looser neck. The scarf compensates in the winter.

I like jcrews interpretation of the French girl...I like the French beauty routine as well...I take a lot of vitamins to get the look

I do the 24 hr all time, and not just with clothes.

I’ve gotten to the point of making my own clothes because I cannot find either stuff that fits properly or is decent quality. Why is it so difficult to get good quality women’s clothing? Like men’s shops that sell suits and shirts and stuff...a women’s equivalent store would be a godsend here in Sydney. I have to admit I can’t go neutral or black all the time. I like colour too much. 😊 Any tips from anyone re: heels. They hurt my feet SO much!
Sophie Acapella (1 month ago)
Excellente vidéo, Justine 👌😎. Et j'aime beaucoup la couleur de ton vernis 😍.

The fact that she mentioned " if you are at the subway and someone nearby is smelly..." shows me that what people say about French people is true.....lol

I love all your video,s but please learn more about the horror of the wool industry. In this day and age there is absolutely no need to exploit those poor animals for fashion.
Marie Mai (1 month ago)
+Jeanne Murray Erin Janus hat Zum Beispiel ein tolles Video zu dem Thema.
Jeanne Murray (1 month ago)
What's the "horror" of the wool industry??? They don't kill the animal. That would be disasterous for their business.

OK, so I am French already. I have ALL of those in my wardrobe! Well, I am a Californian, not French. But if I have all those items already then I must be French. Oui?
M.Y.O. H. (1 month ago)
Most women dress this way one time or another and the majority of women have many of these pieces. Having neutral colors is a must, but too much of it can be dull. Bright colors are great. Gravitating to too many neutrals is boring. The color Black is a work horse in anyone's wardrobe, but wearing it too often is predictable. Bright colors do bring out one's personality, presents, and beauty!

Hi Justine, I was wondering if you can tell me what earrings you’re wearing in this video? They are so simple and chic. Great video!
Gen Williams (1 month ago)
I’d say yes to most of these except the white shirt and the heels! I’ve learned that shirts just do. not. look. good on me. I’m tall and skinny but somehow they are never cut in a way I find comfortable. The collar gets in the way, they are uncomfortable under the arms, too short on the torso. I pull them about all day trying to get comfortable. Hate them. Prefer half-sleeve tops in white/grey/black as a chic smart-casual top. And the tall pointy heels - no! I love high heels but if I’m not comfortable I’m not myself and high black courts are a big no for me. A heel with an ankle strap or rockstar ankle boots and good internal padding where my soles don’t burn and my toes have room to move have as much visual impact but I can concentrate on anything but my sore feet!

Love your videos Justine. Have you got a styling advice video for slightly overweight, middle aged women? How to dress well without feeling like they need to walk in the shade? We do exist, too. How do French women deal with the menopause? Thank you
Jennifer McGoldrick (1 month ago)
I am a New Yorker who has always dressed a bit conservatively and simple - but I can’t do 3.5 inch heels anymore (used to be able to run miles in them!). Instead of black pumps I’ve switched to these Cole Haan patent black pointy toed kitten heels - I’m on my third pair in six years because they are amazingly comfortable and I wear with jeans, pencil skirts, shift dresses - everything. I can’t recommend them more: https://poshmark.com/listing/NWOTCole-Haan-Black-Patent-Leather-Juliana-Pumps-5c8d807203087ca5577c4a77

I LOVE LOVE your videos. I'm currently looking for that perfect white shirt. I'm pear-shaped and have a short torso so I'm finding it difficult to find a shirt that doesn't bunch up in the middle. But I"m optimistic. Thank you SO MUCH for these videos. They help more than you know

I score well. I used to live in Italy, spent 10 years of my life there so I managed to get some useful tips. Unluckily I’m the compulsive buyer😄 so I own too much clothes ....
Amber Mihalski (1 month ago)
Does anyone have suggestions for flats that are actually comfortable? If French women wear them during lots of walking, they must be comfortable. Every pair I've ever owned has torn up the back of my ankle!
Simone Schultz (1 month ago)
What about style of jeans? They’ve gone from traditional and high waist to hipsters in the past 10 years. What jeans are popular in France?
Mary Herje (1 month ago)
I love your videos and am learning a lot... you are both practical & chic! Also, just fyi, here is the United States we call them faded jeans if they are bleached/washed out. I lived in Norway for 10 years and my mother-in-law basically changed my whole wardrobe! LOL! Merci!

Second-hand high-quality is by far better than new shmutz...
Marie DeLozier (1 month ago)
Black is quite good..however, it can be overdone. My sister wears it so much I tell her she looks like an Italian widow...she is getting a little dumpy..wish she would listen to me and change her look...
Aly K (1 month ago)
Marie DeLozier I find dark blue or dark grey can be a great alternate if black is feeling either too boring or you’ve been wearing it a lot. I have a charcoal grey skirt suit and use the blazer a lot rather than black. Esp in the winter when my skin is paler than usual.
Marie DeLozier (1 month ago)
Thumbs-up on the blazers..

I’m surprised you didn’t mention sunglasses I pretty much have everything checked except I prefer chunkier not-too-sexy heels
Suzanne Derringer (2 months ago)
These are clothes for a professional urban woman, specifically suited to Paris. Many of us don't live that chic life! Even within that construct - I luved most of my adult life in NYC, and though some black was almost mandatory - harsh black or white never suited my soft coloring. Cream rather than white. Grey or brown instead of black. Had one Little Black Dress in my 20s - I felt like an Italian widow, never mind how bare the bodice was. High pointy heels? Only if you have really pretty legs - and don't mind suffering. Never wore heels higher than 2 inches - and NOT narrow pointy toes. They harm your feet. Wear something for 10 or 20 years? Get real! Your life changes - your body changes - the Zeitgeist changes. You will want fresh things every few years in the same general style...but a somewhat different cut or fabric or color... Lugging a lot of stuff all day in an oversized bag is tiring and NOT elegant.
A HC (2 months ago)
I think that it is good to own two ‘little’ black dresses, one more formal and another more casual. I have nice LBDs but they are all quite formal. I don’t really want to throw them on for every day!

I did not know my fashion taste is actually more french. I like things simple and elegant. I always prefer basic colored clothes and if possible, no prints, but if there is, just minimal print that can go with anything I pair it with. And your shopping tips are what I’ve been practicing, though I just not buy something right away because of money, but it’s a good tip. It’s true, impulse purchase is bad.
syllene (3 months ago)
I'm 8/10 French. I hate white shirts althought I have..And I don't have ballerina. I like those kind of shoes but I just don't like to wear them. I prefer pumps for walking. Thank you so much for this inspirational video. At least I know I' a little French at some point :)
Marina Zagrai (3 months ago)
I didn't know this was going to be a lesson from the enviro-nuts! We can't wear (I don't, but that's inconsequential) bleached denim because there's the environmentalist squad on the "prowl"? pls...
Robin Moore (3 months ago)
Just a thought- not everyone can wear certain colors very well. For me, white is just...wrong, lol.The white shirt idea would be more like...an "off white" or cream. My skin tone clashes with white. Also...not everyone looks great in black, too. Maybe navy? Thanks for all you do! Great job.

I love turtle necks. I love high neck outfits in general. Makes me feel elegant and sexy
Josephine Winter (3 months ago)
ha, i always dress way more formal, but i'm old and lived a bit in rural southern italy. No neutral colours or black suit me, i'm strictly bright colours. And i always wear lace-up shoes - smart ones. video like: earrings. They're the instant dressed-up piece of jewellery/makeup. Sling on a pair and you've 'made an effort' and are ready to go. But i can never find some basic classic pairs that will see me through everything - a video like your classics videos ('your skirt' this video etc) but earrings? Odd request, i know. Or, a video on work jewellery? that says 'i'm independent and stylish' with no hint of anything else and doesn't look messy, clink, catch on things, outline your bosoms (if you have bigger bosoms, some necklaces outline them and brooches droop or won't sit straight - this is unwanted at work) etc? thanks!

Oh, the tips with going home without a purchase is actually what I do for a loooong tme already :) But I do it in 3 steps: I go shopping, try it. Go home and wai few days, I go again and try it again. If it still feels like I need it and it fits (yes, need instead of want) then I go home again and wait another 24 hours. Then I buy.
evelyn baron (3 months ago)
one more great, succinct, witty and organized video. In America a long time ago my sister, who was a great fan of Oprah, urged me to watch a segment where she was advocating this wardrobe approach to women for financial reasons; so much money gets wasted over time otherwise. Not sure it caught on, but a valiant attempt on her part.
Samara V Hamilton (3 months ago)
The quality and 24-hour rules are the best. Hmmm how "French" am I (in the style department)? When I go out and make some sort of effort, I'm a 7 or 8. Let's just not talk about when I'm at home, hm?

I was waiting to see the "typical" french black-striped, long-sleeved t-shirt and I didn't see it!! ;cD My daughter loves those 'french t-shirts' as she calls them. And what about berets? Or is a beret a stereotype article?
Ana Butyrski (4 months ago)
I have a hard time following this in America. There are a lot of fast fashion stores and the brands that do produce better quality clothing are extremely overpriced because of the name of the brand. I try shopping at Nordstrom Rack for the same reason but it’s still challenging finding something priced for the quality over the brand. Let me know if anyone have any stores that they can recommend. Justine, I love your voice, it’s so soothing.
Lily Lebowsky (2 months ago)
Ana Butyrski save to buy items you truly love. Those ‘overpriced’ items will last years. Quality over quantity
