I see the Madeleine is working in France too! I love this choice and but a lot as they show wonderful dresses and combinations. I have Gray hairs and try to avoid black and powder colors... any suggestions for my age? Tks!
Marie-Anne Lecoeur (12 days ago)
Bonjour Edy, I have a whole ecourse on dressing "ten years younger" - check out my website xx the difference in your style will be amazing x
Tanya Houston (13 days ago)
Sometimes I put a single cuff link in the top button hole of my button down dress shirt. It is small and it is my something special.
Marie-Anne Lecoeur (13 days ago)
Oooo Tanya what a lovely touch 😃 Do you have family cufflinks or do you find them in antique shops? This is such a lovely idea. My husband adores cufflinks - he may not miss a pair or two 😉 A French Chic Gold Star for such a lovely idea ⭐
Shelly Hall (23 days ago)
How do you keep your clothes from being damaged by moths? A lot of my cashmere and wool gets damaged even though I try to keep cedar in my closet.
Marie-Anne Lecoeur (23 days ago)
Bonjour Shelley, I suppose we just aren't in a moth zone. I have never had problems. I can't say why xx
Sugarplum K (1 month ago)
I wish I could find a lovey jacket here in Sydney like the first item you showed! Very smart. I tend to avoid some things with detail though. For example, a lot of tops with appliqué have very poor quality appliqué. I’m sure you get great quality in France but here in Australia you’d have to buy designer quality, otherwise it generally looks cheap in my opinion.
Sugarplum K (29 days ago)
Marie-Anne Lecoeur Marie-Anne Lecoeur Bonjour Marie-Anne. Merci for you reply. Yes that’s a really good point. I am conscious of my body shape height and don’t suit too much embellishment. The cheapness I was referring to was the actual quality of some of the appliqué we get here though.
Marie-Anne Lecoeur (1 month ago)
Bonjour Sugarplum, depending on the kind of detailing it may not be kind to your bodyshape. You need to know your bodyshape before all else so avoiding the detailing is a way to avoid that cheap look you mention and clashing with your bodyshape :0)xx
Fernanda Souza Martins (1 month ago)
Everything u show is wonderful. I prefer others colours, but everything is amazing.🇧🇷
Marie-Anne Lecoeur (1 month ago)
Merice Fernanda, colour is such a personal preference - you have to decide for yourself :0)xx

Marie-Anne, I honnetement adore your vids, but I cracked up when you said: "French chique women, like Me". The English would say to that: "Pretentious, Moi?" 😂😘
Marie-Anne Lecoeur (1 month ago)
Oops Betty - yes 😱 that was a slip 😅, humility in all things is necessary - thank you 😘😘😘

Marie-Anne Lecoeur (1 month ago)
Bonjour Beansiegrl - I have actually posted a video like this - but it is a popular topic - I may do another for you :0)xx please keep watching and spread the word

Its safe to say that you like stripes 😂 Love your videos 💋

Lovely video on the classic style and how to dress elegantly. I’m not sure all French women dress this way though, my French mother-in-law wears leopard, fringes and see-through blouses all the time 😂 her outfits are way more daring than mine!
Sladjana Simic (1 month ago)
Lovely! Thank you

Bonjour Marie-Anne!

Love the French dress style.. I’ve always preferred simple and elegant with a twist - in accessories too.

A small word of advice. IF you are traveling by airplane, Do NOT wear an outfit that has sparkles on it. The sparkles are made with metal and will light up their scanner like an American 4th of July. They WILL pull you out of line and give you "SPECIAL" attention. Other than that, SPARKLE ON My friends, Sparkle on.
Francis Osuna (2 months ago)
Marie-Anne, you have a lovely neck... ; D
Nathalie (2 months ago)
L'avantage pour moi, c'est qu'avec votre prononciation, je comprends l'anglais à merveille! Très bien cette idée de vouloir donner une notion du bon goût aux personnes d'outre-Atlantique ;-)
Maryam Greenidge (2 months ago)
Such a lovely video! You're such an elegant beautiful woman!
Charlotte Usan (2 months ago)
Lecoeur, the heart.
Marina Zagrai (3 months ago)
The ruffled/fluted hem skirt is not my cup of tea...I think the tailored pencil skirt (maybe a thin check/hounds tooth) is nicer. That's just me! The tank top in blush/lt. pink is tiered, and I can't stand to wear any poly/or blend (again, is my opinion). I'm sure other French women would look another's attire over to see whether she can spot something special in the outfit. Not sarcastic.

Too many striped pieces for me
Marie-Anne Lecoeur (3 months ago)
I understand that stripes are not for everyone. I always advise women to wear prints that suit them and which they love. This is my own wardrobe and, being French, I absolutely love stripes. :0)
Robin Moore (3 months ago)
I love thrift shops for classic, yet different pieces. And...the prices are amazing!

I wholeheartedly agree! I often try to choose clothing that has some little touch that makes it different or elevates it. Btw, the fabrication of the white blouse with the raised white dots is called, "Dotted Swiss."
Marie-Anne Lecoeur (4 months ago)
Thank you :0)

Madam, you are a very polite and delicate lady for sure. Being classy wherever we are no doubts is pretty good! Cheers from Brésil !
Callista Smydra (4 months ago)
One little recommendation for your videos: Put the camera up a bit. It looks strange, as there is more ceiling I can see than you.
Stephanie Mcbroom (6 months ago)
I love it very classy. But to many stripes I've been to Paris. And I long to go back!!! Great video

The white blouse is dotted Swiss?
Lynne Pettit (6 months ago)
If you are in copenhagen do visit Arket which is a real find. Well made classic styles for men and women and reasonably priced.
Marie-Anne Lecoeur (6 months ago)
Thank you Lynne. I have never visited Copenhagen, I'll put Denmark on my list :0)

Could you please stop waving your hands around as you speak? It is considered bad manners in many countries.
Marie-Anne Lecoeur (7 months ago)
The French habitually talk with their hands and so I will continue to do so. :0)
Sam Hoffer (7 months ago)
Bonjour Marie-Anne. I enjoyed this video very much. I found it eye-opening as I had not realized how important little details can matter until I watched your video. Merci beaucoup for all of your wonderful tips.

"◔◔¨ * ..stripes ';';;'
Elaine (7 months ago)
Why are there so many stripes?
Marie-Anne Lecoeur (7 months ago)
Parfait! Stripes are a very versatile print, very easy to wear :0)
Elaine (7 months ago)
+Marie-Anne Lecoeur I like stripes too with a blazer over it.
Marie-Anne Lecoeur (7 months ago)
This is my own wardrobe and French people just love stripes :0)
Michaeline Torres (7 months ago)
What is the best under clothing to wear with sheer blouses such as the white one you show here?
Marie-Anne Lecoeur (7 months ago)
Very good question. This blouse is not see-through but with others that are, I wear a camisole in a nude colour, so it can't be seen through the thin material and it hides my bra. Otherwise, a nude bra will do.

I've traveled to France twice and have noticed the simple, but elegant way that French women dress. This was very informative and enjoyable!
Olka Rokendrolka (8 months ago)
I too love the small details that make the pieces that much more special and unique! Loved your video!
chronicreader (8 months ago)
Lovely video. I had never thought about “that little extra” that makes a piece special. Excellent tips.
lucreziia100 (8 months ago)
Marie- Anne has lovely taste and style in her wardrobe choices. She is a great one for details and quality and that's the secret to her style. I like the colours especially - subdued and never loud or garish with a minimum of patterns on the garment.
Michelle Bowler (8 months ago)
I love your videos Marie-Anne...so classy! As a 40 year old woman I appreciate the value of quality classic pieces. Thank you!

I loved this video! I have an eye for details and i always look for that in clothes, like one tiny button in a different coulour. You are so elegant and full of enthusiasm. I love how you carry yourself.

Love your videos. Where can I find clothes like that in Montreal?
Marie-Anne Lecoeur (9 months ago)
In the Old Montreal, I found a lovely little boutique in Sept 2016, where I bought a beautiful red wool wrap and a black top and cardigan set with a row of small sequins at the neckline (for the top) and at the edges of the cardigan. :0)

Beverley Roberts (9 months ago)
And I love that if the French ladies wear a vibrant colour, it's red, beautiful! 😄
Beverley Roberts (9 months ago)
Marie - Anne, I love your accent. Your clothes are beautiful, timeless classic pieces that you could have in your wardrobe for many years. I think it's worth investing a little more money into good fabrics and a piece that's a little different. As you would wear them time and time again. I love the black and white, and navy and white stripes and polka dots in your wardrobe, and accessories, just beautiful 😄

Thank you--I have removed all the gaudy items from my wardrobe.

It can be really difficult to find good basic pieces especially in black. Too much of what I find is trendy patterned ect.
Maristella (9 months ago)
These pieces are beautiful! I agree with this type of beauty!! Thank you!
Anna Morgan (9 months ago)
Thank you for your delightful videos. I am so glad there is someone willing to teach about quality and taste in dressing. Some of the special details that make a garment stand out have been called "dressmaker details" in the US. An example would be top-stitching, or a box-stitch pleat on a skirt. They come from Haute couture, and most likely French Haute couture. Just as you say, French chic - is to have some of the special things that make an item unique and which you will not find in the throw-away clothes that is everywhere.

Sue M (9 months ago)
Love your videos. Do French prefer natural fabrics? Or are synthetics ok too?
TalkShowKelly (9 months ago)
Merci beaucoup for your channel. I was pleased recently when a world traveler gentleman told me I looked very French. My ancestry on my mother’s side is Ferrée, Du Bois, and de la Rouchefoucauld. My French ancestors came to America as Huguenots fleeing persecution in the early 1700s. I very much admire the French je ne se quois and try to incorporate it into my style. Thanks for making it personal and accessible and helping us understand how the French have such elegánce.
Marie-Anne Lecoeur (9 months ago)
Thank you very much and for posting about your ancestry, very interesting, isn't it? :0)

The white blouse fabric is called true dotted Swiss.
Amanda H (9 months ago)
I love you talking about this! I like the subtle sexy in the small details! The overt sex appeal ie low cut with short skirts and high heels is to much!
Kathleen Muhlenkamp (9 months ago)
Just lovely. I believe your white blouse is Swiss dot fabric. 💗💗💗
Alexandra Wimmer (9 months ago)
V e r y interesting! although I ve often noticed how women go for these "a little je ne sais quoi here and there" items which they feel they MUST have. But at the same time they totally ignore the fact that the piece doesn't suit them at all! Sometimes it doesn't even fit properly! I really don't understand! But I'm betting you Marie-Anne that after they watch this video, many more women will go out to buy themselves some je ne sais quoi - which isn't for them! which doesn't suit nor fit them ... . Your choice of wear is fantastic! ♥ All it needs now, is some little camera-filter, or a different kind of lighting, to give you a more flattering and more even skintone and to remove what looks like greasy shine .
Anna Carolana (9 months ago)
I love how sterotypical French women make classic style their own, I was raised to do that too.
Serene Artist (9 months ago)
Thank you so much. You have a beautiful style.
