Could you please stop waving your hands around as you speak? It is considered bad manners in many countries.
Marie-Anne Lecoeur (2 days ago)
The French habitually talk with their hands and so I will continue to do so. :0)

Bonjour Marie-Anne. I enjoyed this video very much. I found it eye-opening as I had not realized how important little details can matter until I watched your video. Merci beaucoup for all of your wonderful tips.

Why are there so many stripes?
Marie-Anne Lecoeur (9 days ago)
Parfait! Stripes are a very versatile print, very easy to wear :0)
Elaine (9 days ago)
+Marie-Anne Lecoeur I like stripes too with a blazer over it.
Marie-Anne Lecoeur (10 days ago)
This is my own wardrobe and French people just love stripes :0)

What is the best under clothing to wear with sheer blouses such as the white one you show here?
Marie-Anne Lecoeur (28 days ago)
Very good question. This blouse is not see-through but with others that are, I wear a camisole in a nude colour, so it can't be seen through the thin material and it hides my bra. Otherwise, a nude bra will do.

I've traveled to France twice and have noticed the simple, but elegant way that French women dress. This was very informative and enjoyable!

I too love the small details that make the pieces that much more special and unique! Loved your video!

Lovely video. I had never thought about “that little extra” that makes a piece special. Excellent tips.
lucreziia100 (1 month ago)
Marie- Anne has lovely taste and style in her wardrobe choices. She is a great one for details and quality and that's the secret to her style. I like the colours especially - subdued and never loud or garish with a minimum of patterns on the garment.
Michelle Bowler (1 month ago)
I love your videos Marie-Anne...so classy! As a 40 year old woman I appreciate the value of quality classic pieces. Thank you!

Love your videos. Where can I find clothes like that in Montreal?
Marie-Anne Lecoeur (2 months ago)
In the Old Montreal, I found a lovely little boutique in Sept 2016, where I bought a beautiful red wool wrap and a black top and cardigan set with a row of small sequins at the neckline (for the top) and at the edges of the cardigan. :0)

And I love that if the French ladies wear a vibrant colour, it's red, beautiful! 😄
Beverley Roberts (2 months ago)
Marie - Anne, I love your accent. Your clothes are beautiful, timeless classic pieces that you could have in your wardrobe for many years. I think it's worth investing a little more money into good fabrics and a piece that's a little different. As you would wear them time and time again. I love the black and white, and navy and white stripes and polka dots in your wardrobe, and accessories, just beautiful 😄

It can be really difficult to find good basic pieces especially in black. Too much of what I find is trendy patterned ect.
Maristella (2 months ago)
These pieces are beautiful! I agree with this type of beauty!! Thank you!
Anna Morgan (2 months ago)
Thank you for your delightful videos. I am so glad there is someone willing to teach about quality and taste in dressing. Some of the special details that make a garment stand out have been called "dressmaker details" in the US. An example would be top-stitching, or a box-stitch pleat on a skirt. They come from Haute couture, and most likely French Haute couture. Just as you say, French chic - is to have some of the special things that make an item unique and which you will not find in the throw-away clothes that is everywhere.
Luxedivva (2 months ago)

Love your videos. Do French prefer natural fabrics? Or are synthetics ok too?

Merci beaucoup for your channel. I was pleased recently when a world traveler gentleman told me I looked very French. My ancestry on my mother’s side is Ferrée, Du Bois, and de la Rouchefoucauld. My French ancestors came to America as Huguenots fleeing persecution in the early 1700s. I very much admire the French je ne se quois and try to incorporate it into my style. Thanks for making it personal and accessible and helping us understand how the French have such elegánce.
Marie-Anne Lecoeur (2 months ago)
Thank you very much and for posting about your ancestry, very interesting, isn't it? :0)

The white blouse fabric is called true dotted Swiss.
Amanda H (2 months ago)
I love you talking about this! I like the subtle sexy in the small details! The overt sex appeal ie low cut with short skirts and high heels is to much!
Kathleen Muhlenkamp (2 months ago)
Just lovely. I believe your white blouse is Swiss dot fabric. 💗💗💗
Alexandra Wimmer (2 months ago)
V e r y interesting! although I ve often noticed how women go for these "a little je ne sais quoi here and there" items which they feel they MUST have. But at the same time they totally ignore the fact that the piece doesn't suit them at all! Sometimes it doesn't even fit properly! I really don't understand! But I'm betting you Marie-Anne that after they watch this video, many more women will go out to buy themselves some je ne sais quoi - which isn't for them! which doesn't suit nor fit them ... . Your choice of wear is fantastic! ♥ All it needs now, is some little camera-filter, or a different kind of lighting, to give you a more flattering and more even skintone and to remove what looks like greasy shine .
Anna Carolana (2 months ago)
I love how sterotypical French women make classic style their own, I was raised to do that too.

Unfortunately for the rest of us that don't live in France is not as simple as pick this or that, there is a matter of cost too, I lived in Italy for 6 year and since everybody dresses well (like you) the prices of the clothes are so much cheaper and it cost nothing to buy a jacket, nothing to buy all the wonderful thing you're showing us and if you want to buy expensive and beautiful staff you just wait until July or December for the discounts until 70% that you have nation wide, Now that I living in Australia I want to cry when I want to buy beautiful clothes/new models or classical jackets because I have to expend a fortune on them. Unfair really enjoy living in the fashionable country. Cheers

Hi, I LOVE your videos. Could you please explain how your heart ring is part of the French philosophy in dressing ? Also where did you get it. Thank you so much.
Marie-Anne Lecoeur (2 months ago)
Thank you. I bought this ring in a French boutique a few years ago. Only this piece of jewellery stood out in my outfit in this video, avoiding a 'more is more' look. :0)

I like how the pieces you show are basic pieces in style for many years, yet you show they are not plain based subtle details that people will notice almost on a subconscious level until they are even closer to you and appreciate that little something extra. I could take a basic black tank top and hand crochet a black lace border on the bottom with sparkle black thread with a pretty design and it would give it something special to the piece. I see. You look very chic, by the way.

Thanks youtube to recommend this video and thank you Marie-Ann for this inspiring video. I smiled because I had a coat with a similar leather trim and I have a similar sparkling lurex sweater. But I love some boho clothes as well. I adore the French style and think it is perfect for work and special occasions, but sometimes I have to wear a boho inspired silk skirt or jumper. I leave you a subscribtion and a like, can't wait for some more tips.

Thank you for this video. I’m living in a home with very little clothing storage space in Japan, so I’ve been looking into simplifying my wardrobe. But living in Japan, the variety of flashy clothes and simple clothes is a little overwhelming and I’m never sure what to look for. I think I’ll start looking for more basic items with a little flare next time I go clothes shopping. 👍

This lady is tres elegant with a certain je ne c'est pas, but I'm afraid I don't buy into the myth that all French women are stylish - any more than that other well-worn cliche, French women don't get fat! There are stylish French women, just as there are stylish British women and stylish Italian women. There are also women of every nationality - including French - who care not one jot for style, fashion or beauty and choose to slob around putting comfort before looks. That is their choice and if it makes them happy, good luck to them! I am a British devotee of style, so I look forward to more of these videos on a subject that fascinates me. But Marie-Anne will never convince me that French women are more innately fabulous than any other nationality of women - France has its share of slobs like every other country!

My sister and I both noticed how well-dressed Parisians were when we visited. Clothes were simple but well-tailored and hair was natural. It was nice to see; I admire that style.
Suzanne Campbell (3 months ago)
Yes, I too find things are in the little details that set it apart. I'm a newbie to your channel. I am loving the striped dress with the lower cut in the back. I am a big fan of these type of clothes. Maybe I have a wee bit of French in me. Thanks, I do have a wish to visit France at some point in my life. You are a Beautiful Soul. I love a nice pair of black pumps then you look at the back and there is a small bow which changes up the simple look. I am trying to change up my wardrobe. I have a high bedroom that was made into a huge closet. Whenever anyone comes I get teased. Due to I had to purchase around turn rack .ike they have in department stores as well as having the whole back wall rack about 20 feet long with more clothes than 1 women could ever wear unless she was a model. Or an entertainer. I just love clothes, shoes, Scarfs, I live in the US but I do not dress like an ordinary person. I inherited this love of clothes from my Beautiful Mother. She was always dressed to the nines and from her Nail polish to her shoes, earrings. She stood out. Everywhere she went. I miss her so very very much. I am thankful for her love and guidance thru out my life... Thanks, I love your video. Much love sent your way...

MissHannah2036 (3 months ago)
This has always been my principle in clothes, to keep it classic, simple not to busy. I have a few nautical, stripy tops and dresses always look cute. So true, they need to have a little extra detail or different sort of texture, just enough to catch the eye and see it for more than it is, as opposed it just being a navy cardigan :). I find the French female style as understated but stylish with a unique air about themselves.

Traveling to Firenze this Autumn to take some drawing and painting classes. I like to be minimal with my travel wardrobe and I will need a raincoat or parka. Thank you for your advice...I remember my mother used to say very similar things like you about details and fabrics.

I just came back from Paris such a snob people love my American people much better we are so friendly
flouncymom (2 months ago)
Marie-Anne Lecoeur what a graceful and diplomatic response! I did not visit Paris, but a small French town where the people were lovely. Suzan moghadam, have you been to New York city, or north New Jersey, which is basically also NYC? They have reached new levels of rude. Unfortunately, they love to vacation where I live; a small, closely knit, friendly town where people are polite, helpful and considerate of others. Needless to say, the tourists make our lives a living Hell all summer. We actually celebrate their leaving. Maybe if we started being rude back, they wouldn't come here anymore????? Ahh one can dream.
Marie-Anne Lecoeur (3 months ago)
Hello Suzan, I am sorry to hear about your bad experience in Paris, but as we know a capital is not the rest of the country. I assure you that we are friendly and nice. I agree with you about American people's friendliness, this has been my personal experience. :0)
